Child Passenger Safety
The Martin Police Department maintains certified technicians who have national certification to assist parents and caregivers with the proper installation and use of child restraint systems. The technicians attend a four day, eight hour per day class which prepares them for certification. Each technician must perform car seat inspections after certification. After initial certification, the Child Passenger Safety (CPS) technician must be re-certified every two years, which requires several continuing education classes and documentation of activity.
For more information on child passenger safety, go to TN Traffic Safety, Safe Kids Worldwide, Car Insurance.org or The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. All four of these websites have reliable information about car seats and safety.
